A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Mindanao, within the 40-kilometer radius of Butuan City at about 9:48 p.m. Wednesday.
No damage or casualties were reported as of this posting Thursday evening. However, slight tremors were felt in Davao City and in other surrounding areas of Butuan.

Based on the report posted by the US Geological Survey on their website, the epicenter of the earthquake was located some 35 kilometers north of Butuan City or 60 kilometers earlier this month, last November 4, a similarly strong earthquake struck off the coast of Mati , Davao Oriental.
Based on the report of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the earthquake struck at 2:22 p.m. Wednesday 78 kilometers off the coast of Mati.
The epicenter of the earthquake was registered at approximately 78 kilometers north, 56 degrees east of the town of Mati in Davao Oriental.
A 5.2-intensity was felt in Tagum City.
There were no immediate reports of injuries and damages, but tremors were strongly felt in Davao City. (Carlo P. Mallo)
