Engay tallied six points while Acedo finished with five in the Swiss System format chessfest that served as qualifying for the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet.

In elementary boys, Engay prevailed over five-pointers Bhing Joel Gimony of Unit 8 and Marc Alexander Lim of Unit 6. Gimony had superior tiebreak over Lim, 28-24.5, to grab the silver while the latter went home with the bronze.

The elementary girls gold, meanwhile, went to Turkey-bound Hannah Joyce Amoncio of Unit 9 who made 6.5 points while her teammate Ella Grace Moulic got 6.0 for silver and Joerlz Gimony of Unit 8 with 5.0 for the bronze.

The 2008 Vietnam Asean Age-Group Chess team silver performer Rowelyn Joy Acedo of Unit 8 shared the limelight by edging fellow six-pointer Nikki Erica Yngayo of Unit 9 via tiebreak, 24-23.5 for the secondary girls gold.

Yngayo took home the silver instead while Starjen Candia of Unit 6 salvaged the bronze.
