Less daylight for golf

AN avid golfer found himself running late for his tee time.

He had so much work to do and his boss would not allow him to leave unless he finishes everything first.

After all the paperwork, he quickly jumps inside his Mercedez and starts speeding to get to the golf course quickly.

When his speed reached 80 miles per hour, he suddenly saw a flashing red and blue light behind him. He tried to outrun the police and drove even faster. But the cop was still behind him. So, he had no choice but to pull over.

The cop came up to him, took his license without a word, and examined it. Finally he came to the window looking steadily at the driver and said, "I've had a tough shift and this is my last pull over. I don't feel like more paperwork so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven't heard before, you can go!"

The driver blinked only once while his brain scrambled for a reply. "Last week my wife, Chay Lopez, ran off with a cop," he said, "and I was afraid you were returning her to me!"

"Off you go," said the officer.

Speaking of running late for a tee time, did you notice that it gets dark quickly these days? If you're an afternoon player, you better tee off earlier than your usual time because chances are, you may not be able to finish 18 holes. If you play in the afternoon and there are four or five of you in the flight and no golf car, good luck!

In the summer months, around May, the sun usually rises around 5:20 a.m., and sets around 5:47 p.m. which gives you a total of 12 hours and 27 minutes of daylight. In the winter months, this week for example, the sun rises between 5:55 a.m. and 5:58 a.m. and sets around 5:24 p.m. We have around 11 hours and 27 minutes of daylight. If you notice, that is about an hour less of daylight. With that said, you should be able to adjust your tee time to make sure you are able to play 18 full holes.

If you are betting with a group of buddies, and you are losing a lot of money, I would suggest that in the second half of the game, you start playing very slowly. Take your time when reading the greens, and make a lot of practice shots on the fairway. So when a little darkness catches up with you, you can tell them that it will be too dark by the time you finish, therefore, you have to cancel all bets. Hehe!
