Magsaysay: Eating, the organic way

Myra Isabel Magsaysay

ORGANIC farming is an environmental friendly way of farming. It does not use harmful pesticides or chemicals, but instead uses compost and other techniques to make for a healthier and ecologically friendly farm.

The advantage of an organic farm is that it does not release synthetic pesticides into the environment which harm the top soil, and also seep into underground water, harming terrestrial and aquatic life.

Organic farms are better than conventional farms at sustaining diverse ecosystems of plants, insects and animals.

This holistic approach to farming also yields organic herbs and vegetables higher in nutritional value.

Organic food. There is hard evidence that the consumption of organic food is beneficial to health in relation to nutrient content. Studies show higher nutrient levels up to 40 percent in organic fruits, herb and vegetables which also have more anti oxidants.

Organic foods have higher amounts of bio toxins solanine in potatoes and higher minerals of potassium, iron, zinc and magnesium in vegetables and fruits. Organic foods are higher in flavorids like queratin an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant nutritional supplement abundant in green and leafy vegetables which has been promoted as being effective against a variety of disease including the Big C.
